Joanna Mattrey's 'Weaver' is a new piece for performer and light and sculptural installation. 'Weaver' deconstructs a traditional Lebanese folk song by Fairooz and creates melodic and textural improvisations based on the source material. This work and the accompanying installation honor Mattrey's late grandmother, who raised silkworms in Lebanon, and spent many laborious hours unwinding the continuous strands of silk from their cocoons. 'Weaver' deals with the threads of ancestry, loss, and continued connection through music.
Also on the program will be the following new compositions that Mattrey premiered in November, 2021 at Brooklyn's Center for Performance Research, presented by ISSUE Project Room.
Nick Dunston, 'A Fleeting Once'
Weasel Walter, 'Dire Consequenzas'
Lucie Vitkova, 'Octavia' w/ electronics
Leila Bordreuil 'Mirage'
Joanna Mattrey is a Hudson Valley native who is very excited to bring these works to the region.
